Plain-language summary: Calculator descriptions and documentation are public. Running calculations through the API requires a CES-issued key. The standard attribution license requires visible credit beside results. Use without visible credit requires a separate written commercial license.
1. Scope and acceptance
These terms govern automated access to the CalculateEnergySavings.com calculator API. By requesting, receiving, or using an API key, you agree to these terms and any limits associated with your account. Website visitors may continue using the public calculators without an API key.
2. Credentials and access
Calculation requests require an active API key supplied in the X-CES-API-Key header or as a bearer token. Keys are assigned to a named client, may not be shared or transferred, and must be protected as confidential credentials. CalculateEnergySavings.com may suspend or revoke a key used outside its approved purpose.
3. Attribution license
Unless a separate written white-label license applies, every displayed or distributed result produced through the API must include the linked notice “Powered by CalculateEnergySavings.com” adjacent to the result. The calculator name, source URL, methodology URL, calculator version, and citation returned by the API may not be removed, obscured, or altered in a way that misrepresents the source.
4. Commercial and white-label use
Removing visible attribution, embedding CES calculations in a paid product, reselling access, sublicensing access, or presenting the calculation engine as another party’s technology requires a separate written commercial or white-label agreement. Payment alone does not alter these terms unless the applicable written agreement expressly does so.
5. Prohibited conduct
- Do not circumvent access controls, usage limits, rate limits, or key restrictions.
- Do not publish, transfer, or expose an API key to unauthorized parties.
- Do not use API responses to train or fine-tune a competing calculation model or to reconstruct the CES calculation engine without written permission.
- Do not state or imply that screening results are professional advice, guaranteed savings, equipment design, incentive eligibility, or an approval decision.
- Do not submit personal, confidential, regulated, or utility-bill information to endpoints that do not expressly support and authorize that information.
6. Metering and limits
API use is metered by client, date, calculator, and response status. Per-minute limits and monthly allowances are returned in response headers. Requests above those limits may be rejected. CES may adjust limits to protect service reliability, prevent abuse, or reflect a client’s license.
7. Screening estimates and responsibility
API results are preliminary screening estimates based on the submitted assumptions and the identified calculator version. Users remain responsible for verifying measurements, tariffs, equipment constraints, formulas, project scope, and applicable requirements before making purchasing, engineering, financial, or operational decisions.
8. Changes and termination
CES may update these terms and require a client to accept a new version before additional calculation requests are permitted. Access may be suspended or terminated for misuse, nonpayment under a commercial agreement, security concerns, or violation of these terms.
